DIR. Michaela Muller (HR, CH) 2017 '11

In a modern day airport, the flow of passengers is broken by sudden irregularities. Security forces try to get to the cause of the disruption, the atmosphere turns menacing at the slightest anomaly. Tragedy and panic are always just one step away. The film explores the borders between the right to freedom of movement and the restrictions national security requirements put on society.

Michaela Müller was born in St. Gallen, Switzerland. She graduated with an MA in Animation and New Media from the Academy of Fine Arts in Zagreb, Croatia and holds a diploma as drawing and crafts teacher from the Lucerne University of Applied Sciences and Arts.
Müller’s multiple awarded animated films, Miramare (2009) and Airport (2017), screened at countless international film festivals such as the Cannes Film Festival, Toronto International Film Festival, DOK Leipzig, Slamdance etc and have both won the Swiss Film Award for Animation.

The Blissful Accidental Death

A man finds a drawing in an antique shop with a secret love letter from 70 years ago on the back. He takes an unusual journey to meet the author who has lived through some important events during the past century.

As a child, Sergiu Negulici was always drawing and his parents took him seriously. While studying Sculpture at National University of Arts Bucharest, he started working in the first post-production studio in post ’89 Romania, where he became part of the new wave of digital artists. 18 years later, he was given the chance to co-ordinate a small team for part of Anca Damian’s animated feature “Magic Mountain” (2015). Ever since this experience, he has focused his work on animation.



As result of an accident during the repair work next to psychiatric hospital the electrician loses his consciousness and finds himself behind the wall.

Director’s bio:
Born in 1970, in Daugavpils, Latvia. Finished J.Rozenthal Art School in Riga in 1989. Studied animation at Konstfack University College of Arts, Crafts and Design in Sweden. In 2007 founded animation studio Lunohod in Riga, Latvia. Artworks from the animated films were exhibited in Latvia, Portugal, Italy and Japan. Was conducting workshops, masterclasses and retrospectives in Portugal, Poland, France, Canada, Czech Republic, Germany, Italy, Greece, Russia and USA. Animated short films were awarded at film festivals in France, Sweden, Japan, USA, UK, Brazil, Canada, Germany, Czech Republic, Poland, Croatia and other countries.


dir. Marta Pajek (PL) 2018 '12

A Man and a Woman meet in a waiting room and immediately get closer to each other. They commence a game that gradually gets more and more ferocious. Their faces resemble masks while shapes slowly lose their integrity. Bodies are formed like clay, embracing each other until the limits of impossibility. „III” is a portrait of a woman in an exhausting relationship with a man, which allures and repulses at the same time. The film is the third part of the triptych “Impossible Figures and other stories”.

MARTA PAJEK was born in 1982 in Kielce/Poland. She graduated from Academy of Fine Arts in Krakow, where she specialized in animated film in the class of Jerzy Kucia. As part of an exchange program she studied in Turku Arts Academy in the class of Priit Pärn. Author of the animated short films. Her previous film – Impossible Figures and Other Stories II was screened and awarded at almost 80 festivals in Poland and abroad and scored 25 awards among others Grand Prix of the Stuttgart ITFS. Marta Pajek lives and works in Warsaw.

A film beyond the eyelids. In one word: a trip.

Marko Mestrovic (1972, Stuttgart) graduated painting from the Academy of Fine Arts in Zagreb. He has been making animated films since 2000. His films were screened at some of the most important film festivals (Locarno, Annecy, Clermont-Ferrand, Ottawa, Edinburgh, Sarajevo) and received many awards. He plays drums in the world music band Cinkusi.

While waiting for the arrival of the mysterious newcomer, people keep on guessing who is he. The blurry vision of the stranger takes shape the way his presence feels almost real. The initial excitement of the crowd turns into anxiety.

Marta Magnuska lives and studies in Łódź. Animator, director, illustrator. Graduated from the Faculty of Graphics and Painting at the Academy of Fine Arts in Łódź, the diploma in editorial design and illustration. Participated in the student exchange programs with Universidade de Belas-Artes in Lisbon and  Animationinstitut Filmakademie Baden-Wurttemberg in Ludwigsburg.

Mary and the 7 Dwarfs

Having spent her entire life behind the convent walls old and dignified nun Maria has decided to fulfill her childhood dream. The only obstacle on her way is her fragmentary, almost non-existent memory. Maria is afraid that her ultimate dream may turn out to be a sin instead.

Riho Unt (1956) has been working in animation since 1983. He holds classes, workshops and animation courses. He has taken part in several group exhibitions, and has had a few individual retrospectives. His work includes MARY AND 7 DWARFS (2018), THE MASTER (2015) showcased previously at Animated Spirits, HAPPY BIRTHDAY (2012), NORTH DRAGON (2007), MIRIAM AND THE FLOOD (2006), BROTHERS BEARHEART (2005) and HAVING SOUL (2001).

Manivald, a fox, is turning 33. Overeducated, unemployed and generally uninspired, he lives with his overbearing, retired mother. It is an easy life, but not a good one. This unhealthy co-dependence changes when the washing machine breaks down and Toomas, a hot young plumber arrives to fix it and breaks into the harmonious life.

Chintis Lundgren (b. 1981) is an Estonian animation director. She started in 2008 as an independent author and since 2011 she runs her own animation studio called Chintis Lundgreni Animatsioonistuudio. She is also a co-funder of Adriatic Animation, a new animation studio based on the coast of Croatia.

dir. Vojtech Domlatil (CZ) 2017 '3

The slow and unrelenting sound of the surf. No sea or beach in sight. Instead, the countryside of the Czech Republic, shattered and animated by zooming and time-lapse effects, forward and backward accelerations. Clouds and hills, trees and farmlands, power towers and cattle herds are transformed, through a clever (and amused) use of stop motion, into the perpetual waves of an invisible ocean. Successfully presented at several international festivals, an eccentric heir to the Czech animation tradition, Waves is a lightning synesthetic journey through the landscape.

Vojtech Domlatil is a Czech animator, illustrator, graphic designer and assistant in the studio of animation at University of West Bohemia in Pilsen. He obtained several international awards with his animation and illustration works. In his last films he specialized himself to non-narrative possibilities of stopmotion animation.

Melancholic and minimalistic narration in the form of animation about the transience of being and the levity of time, about the illusion of freedom and the loneliness of a little man in the sea of life.

Marharita Tsikhanovich is an artist from Minsk, Belarus. She graduated from MGHK im. A.K Glebov in 2009 (painting) in Belarus, after finishing her studies at the University of West Bohemia – Ladislav Sutnar Fakulty of Design and Art, specialization: animation and interactive art – in the Czech Republic. Currently she is working as a freelance artist actively involved in multiple projects such as book illustration, motion design and 2d animation.

Short stop motion film that interprets meal times through a handful of visual jokes, connected by one character. The film was made as a cut-out exercise at FAMU in Prague. The original idea came when the filmmaker was having a coffee and imagined a naked person taking a bath in her espresso. She then started exploring the rituals surrounding certain meals of the day.

Michaela Mihalyi was born in eastern Slovakia in a small town called Michalovce. She was born there in the year of Nirvana’s Nevermind, 1991. She studied animation at the Academy of Performing Arts in Bratislava. Currently, she is studying animation at FAMU in Prague, where she is preparing her bachelor film Alphabet. With Dávid Štumpf, she is co-directing a short animated film called The End. Besides studying, she works as a freelance animator and illustrator, and has a dog called Ela.

Only Lovers Leave to Die

Emily begins perceiving the world as it was made from painted film stock shortly after being injured in an accident. On her way to a hospital, a story of love, death, passion and loss unravels through dialogues of characters surrounding her, each represented with a different pattern of film stock.

Vladimir Kanic is a versatile transdisciplinary artist whose diverse practice spans filmmaking, photography, music, visual art and computer science. He uses his knowledge from different artistic and scientific fields to solve problems that are outside of the scope of traditional artistic boundaries, with an accent on diversity of research and experimentation. His short films have been playing at renowned film festivals and had won multiple international awards, and he has also held multiple international art exhibitions and performances.

In an Art Museum, we better learn well, from outer to inner, from deep to its deepest, seriously and sincerely.

Aggie was born in 1989 in Hong Kong, where she obtained her BA. Later she also studied in Zagreb and Budapest for animated film. Her work draw inspiration from observing the potential of matter and the playful relationship between the flow of sound and of images.

NEBULA is an experiment that aims at finding the link between two trends that develop simultaneously in the history of film – Lumieres concept of a movie as a record of reality and Méliés’s idea that uses the film as a tool for creation of imaginative worlds. NEBULA draws from both of these approaches and becomes a combination, collage, in which the recorded figurative picture is intermingled with abstract compositions being the graphic equivalent of music. The project using the volumetric filmmaking technique (RGB+D) is, on the one hand, the recording of an event (a meeting of musicians playing a jazz composition “Sleepwalker” by Maciej Obara) and, on the other, an attempt to obtain the visual experience of music by using the soundtrack of a recorded piece of music at the stage of post-production. The picture created as a result of the recording represents the “Lumieres line” that aims at reflecting the reality in the most accurate way. Musical layer that has its sources also in the recording becomes a tool for creation of abstract visual compositions that does not bear traits of reality (Méliés’s line). These two approaches are combined into an audio visual form resembling a video clip.

The aim of this project, besides examining the links between record and creation based on non-figurative forms, is also the exploration of the new volumetric filmmaking technique (picture recorded by a Kinect sensor).

Marcin Nowrotek (born in 1982) is a graphic & motion designer and animator. Graduated and currently an assistant in the animation studio in Academy of Fine Arts in Katowice (Poland). Author of many projects from the area of film, animation and multimedia.

Take Me Please!

Story about a breakup and its aftermath. The boy hesitates, but he isn’t strong enough to break up. Finally the girl calls it off, and when they meet again, the girl is with her new boyfriend. Seems to be more shocking than he expected, the boy tries to escape, the pain becomes unbearable, he is drifting and feels sorry for himself, he even dies a little inside. The director invites you to this surrealistic journey that reflects on the life after love. 

Oliver Hegyi (born in Szeged, Hungary) is an independent animation filmmaker, living and working in Budapest, Hungary. He graduated from the Moholy-Nagy University of Art and Design (MOME) animation BA in 2014, and MA in 2017. Take me please! is his graduation film.

Patience is a gift.

A hush falls upon the crowd, the commentator awaits the first play, the balls are ready, the first mouth is opened – it’s time to play.

Born in Buenos Aires, Argentina, Nicolás Petelski has recently graduated from the Polytechnic University of Valencia with a BA in Fine Arts. Obsessed with cinema and TV as a kid, he started shooting his first short films at a young age, learning about filmmaking, editing and storytelling in a self-taught way. Years later, his passion for 90’s cartoon series got him into animation, having made several short films during his student years, some of them being selected in festivals like Fest Anča, SICAF, and Turku Animated Film Festival among others.

His latest short film, A Table Game, was partially produced during an Erasmus exchange program in the Estonian Academy of Arts, being supervised by the internationally known animator, Priit Pärn, and inspired by the absurdity that characterizes Estonian animation.

At present, he’s exploring new mediums and concepts to expand the borders of his artistic language.


dir. Péter Vácz (HU) 2017 '2

The Smelly Hamstergeccos (2012-2016) was a Hungarian children rockband established by a 14 and 10 year old brother and sister. Their songs and lyrycs are as intuitive and powerful as the best children drawings. This psychedelic music video was created with the same fun mentality using colour crayon drawings to present the band’s members and the song’s hero, a strawberry.

Péter Vácz is an award-winning animation director from Budapest, Hungary. He graduated from Moholy-Nagy University of Art and Design with his film ‘Rabbit and Deer’ (2013) which has won over 125 festival awards in more than 60 countries. Since then Péter created two award-winning stopmotion music videos – ‘All I’m Saying’ (2014) and ‘Dear John’ (2016) – for the famous British rock band James and two poem based short films (Satellite Dish and Strawberry). His debut live-action short film ‘Pillowface’ (2018) will have its international premier at the prestigious Warsaw Film Festival. Péter also teaches and lectures animation practice and theory and gives professional workshops.

Mother and son are changing places and roles constantly: once, the mother is an adult, sometimes son matures and takes care of suddenly childish mother. The arrangement works fine, until the boy decides to escape from under the skirt of the overprotective mother and start an independent life.

Paulina Ziółkowska was born in 1988 in Wroclaw. In 2008 she began studies at the Department of Graphic Design at the Academy of Fine Arts in Wroclaw. She is currently studying animation at the National Film School in Lodz.

Yellow is a short animated film telling metaphoric story of young opera singer Viola. Scared of everything yellow, sunny and spontaneous she hides herself in sad violet shadows. She struggles between self-control and spontaneity, sorrow and joy, violet and yellow. Violet represents her effort and self-control. She is an opera singer and she loves music but in sake of her career she sacrifices her desires, her joy and vital energy – literally she loses her breath. Will she find her way to happiness?

Ivana Šebestová graduated as an animated film director at the Academy of Performing Arts in Bratislava, Slovakia. Her master’s film “Lionardo Mio” (2005) won the Bologna European Festival of Film Schools. She gained numerous national and international awards for her short films “Four” (Štyri, 2007) and “Snow” (Sneh, 2013). She also works as an illustrator of books for children. Currently she is working on the TV special “Mimi & Lisa Christmas Lights Mystery”.

Xoxo Hugs and Kisses

A film about emotional boundaries, both individual and relationship-related, that we want to pursue. By showing the sensual game in which the characters are involved, the film tells the story of mutual fascination, body expression, sensitivity and provocation. Two women and one man create erotic spectacle which reveals their involvement and loneliness resulting from getting lost in their relationship.

Wiola Sowa graduated from Academy of Fine Arts in Krakow. A two-time winner of the Polish Ministry of Culture and National Heritage Scholarship, City of Krakow Art Scholarship and Goethe Institut Scholarship. Her films received several awards (among others Silver Dragon and Silver Hobby-Horse at Krakow Film Festival, Best Director – Athens Film Festival, Best Short -Krzysztof Kieślowski Award and many others). Films by Wiola Sowa were presented at: Centre Pompidou, Berbican Centre Londyn, World Animation Film Festival Zagreb, London Film Festival, Hiroshima Animation Film Festival.

A film about (local) patriotism, tourism and emigration.
The girl lives in a gray, isolated country, enclosed by a huge wall. She has never travelled anywhere, but all her life she has dreamt of leaving forever for a perfect world called “Abroad”.

Ana Nedeljković was born in Belgrade in 1978. She graduated in painting from the Faculty of Fine Arts in Belgrade. She was awarded a PhD in art practice at the same faculty. She is a visual artist working in the media of drawing, installation and animated film, and is also active in art education.

Nikola Majdak Jr. was born in Slovenia in 1972. He has an MFA from the Faculty of Dramatic Arts in Belgrade, camera department.  For the past 20 years he has been a freelance cameraman, animator, director and lecturer.

Their first film “Rabbitland” (2013) was awarded the Crystal Bear at the Berlinale. It has also received numerous other awards and has been shown at more than a hundred festivals worldwide.

Mermaids and Rhinos

Eight-year-old Matilda’s memories of her family take the form of surreal visions. They feature her grandmother – a circus member and ex-mermaid, her erotically overheated mother, and her missing father whose broken heart, anger, and jealousy manifest as a rhino. Present and past actions are in a constant state of metamorphosis. The characters overstep their own boundaries, as well as the physical borders of the world surrounding them. Matilda’s life is full of grotesque, bizarre characters hungry for love. The atmosphere of wistfulness, desire, passion, and sorrow frames the story.

Viktória Traub attended MOME (Moholy-Nagy University of Art and Design Budapest), Animation Department (2002-2008) and ESAD in Portugal (2006). Author of films Mermaids and Rhinos (2017), Iron Egg(2015), Rain (2008).

Musical Traumas

A rhythmic compilation of traumatic, but amusing confessions of former music school students.

Musical Traumas came to fruition as the result of the director’s obsession with music schools. It is a rhythmic compilation of traumatic, but amusing confessions of former students, as well as an attempt to visualise music with scrumptious, hand-drawn animation. The experiences may be documentary, but the image comes straight from the world of musical impressions.

Milos Tomic (1976, Belgrade), graduated in Film Directing from the Academy of Arts in Belgrade in 2001. He holds an MA in Animation from FAMU (Prague), class of Petar Skala, where he also received a PhD with a thesis on discarded objects as material for film and photography. Since 2009, he has been living in Belgrade, where he teaches short video forms at the Singidunum University. In 2013, he represented Serbia at the Venice Biennale. He has filmed over 40 short fiction, documentary, experimental and animated films, which screened at numerous festivals, winning many awards.


DIR. Veljko Popovic (HR, FR) 2018 '7

The cycling season is nearing its grand finale. During the final race, the two men in the lead are competing for more than the Grand Trophy; they are fighting for the affection of a lady and fulfilment of their erotic fantasies. Meanwhile, the small port town prepares for the arrival of a large ocean liner and its dashing captain.
Inspired by the art of Vasko Lipovac, Veljko Popovic created an animated short marked by unique aesthetics. Painted in vivid colours of summer and with a dash of the erotic, it is a comedy that captures the spirit of a small Mediterranean town.

Veljko Popovic (1979) graduated in 2003 from the Academy of Fine Arts in Zagreb, Department of Painting. In 1998, he started working with computer graphics. He co-founded Lemonade3d, a CG and animation studio. Since 2012, he has been a tenured Professor at the Arts Academy in Split, where he teaches animation. His films have been screened and awarded at numerous festivals worldwide, including Annecy, Animafest Zagreb, Clermont-Ferrand, Aspen, Hiroshima, Leeds, Stuttgart, etc. He has been a jury member at many film festivals.

Solar Walk

“Solar Walk shows a journey through space and the process of creation​ within an animated cosmic chaos.”

Solar Walk shows the journey of individuals and their creations on through time and space. Any meaning of action is only existent from the perspective of the individual, but never mandatory when looking at it from the perspective of a solar system. It’s about the melancholy of accepting chaos as beautiful and cosmic. Passion for creation is projected through the unique and playful texture of the animation craft itself.

Réka Bucsi, born in 1988, is a Hungarian independent animation filmmaker. She received her BFA and MFA at the animation department of Moholy-Nagy University of Art and Design Budapest. Her graduation film Symphony no. 42, got Shortlisted for the 87th Academy Awards. Her films were screened at official shorts competition Berlinale, SXSW, Sundance, Annecy, and won over 50 international awards. 2013/2014 she attended Animation Sans Frontiéres (ASF), the European Animation Production Workshop. She was an artists in residence at the Open Workshop in Viborg – Denmark, and at Q21 in Vienna – Austria. Her french co-produced short film LOVE was nominated for the European Film Awards 2017, and shortlisted for the César Award 2018. Réka is represented as a director by Passion Pictures.

Robert Sowa (Poland)

Animation's Experiments in Film Language

Robert Sowa is the Head of Animation Film Studio at the Academy of Fine Arts Krakow, Poland. As an animation film director and graphic artist, he is a restless experimenter. In his work, he is constantly looking for connections between visual experimentations and experimental sound.
He creates individual languages through a wide range of mediums and a relationship between visual and sonic spaces. Robert Sowa makes animation films using stop motion, mixed media, lighting, painting, and photography. He collaborated on the implementation of many feature and documentary films.

His works have been presented at many festivals, screenings, and art galleries, including: Centrum Pompidou, Paris, France;
Museum Of Modern Art, New York, USA;
Festival Del Film Locarno, Switzerland;
Anima Mundi Gallery, Rio De Janeiro, Sao Paulo, Brasil;
The National Museum In Krakow, Poland;
Center For Contemporary Art, Warsaw, Poland; Barbican Centre, London, UK;
Center For Contemporary Art (Cccb), Barcelona, Spain. He also cooperates with the Institute of Audiovisual Arts of the Jagiellonian University and the Center for Digital Art and Experimental Media (DXARTS) at the University of Washington, Seattle, USA.

Animation’s Experiments in Film Language
Professor Sowa will be presenting a case study lecture on the subject on experimentation in digital 3D animation. He will demonstrate the stages of project development from conceptual work, through storyboarding, trials and tests confronted with the excerpts from final outcomes. In his presentation, he will also discuss the field of CGI experiments with stereoscopy, contemporary music, documentary filmmaking, with examples from his own work.

David Ringeisen is a Director and Lead of the Previsualization Unit of Budapest based Digic Pictures. Studying arts from an early age, he got his Master Degree in Animation at the Moholy-Nagy University of Art and Design, Budapest, graduating with the multi-award winning animated 3D short, Paper World. David joined Digic right from school in 2012, where he has been working on CG cinematic trailers for games like Assassin’s Creed, Uncharted, Witcher III. Just to name a few, and directing trailers and cutscenes for Call of Duty, Destiny and League of Legends. Since 2014 he is also a Doctoral student of MOME, researching the field of interactive non-fictional storytelling.

Directing and Previsualization of Game Cinematics
Pre-rendered cutscenes and game trailers are a rather unique field of animation, on the edge of trailers, short films and advertisement. Since the storytelling has to happen on a limited runtime, with often very strict budget, short deadlines and picky clients, previsualization is a key element not only to the preproduction, but to come to terms in visualizing a script, optimizing budget, and often finding solutions to meet technical limitations. Directing in such circumstances require special skillsets, and techniques, for which recent projects would serve as great case studies.

Maroš Brojo is the artistic director of Fest Anča International Animation Festival situated in Žilina, Slovakia and a programmer at Fest Anča Game Days parallel event focusing on independent digital games. He is the project coordinator of New Talents promotional initiative at Visegrad Animation Forum in Třeboň, Czech Republic. As a curator, he works at the Slovak Museum of Design, focusing on digital games and multimedia history, archiving and preservation. He is a member of Slovak Arts Council support program for multimedia and digital games.

Early history of Slovak digital games and gaming culture
Slovak approach to game development during the important years of shift from socialism to capitalism brought several very interesting independently developed digital games. Rising influence of western culture and declining influence of Slovak Communist party has resulted in games that actively reflected the contemporary feelings and ideas of their authors, a generation and a specific community. It was a generation of early personal computer adopters, many of them still in their teen years. These young pirates and pioneers hoarded hundreds of videogame copies, attended school clubs where they discussed what they played and actively exchanged games not only in person but also via regular post correspondence. The biggest gaming and personal computing fans also started coding very early with the ambition to create games too. Due to their beginner skills they mostly inclined to a genre that, with the benefit of hindsight, is actually very valuable when it comes to historical and sociological research of Slovak games – text adventures.

A genre that is heavily story driven and full of fascinating writing. This is where some of the earliest titles from Slovakia shine: stealing Pepsi-Cola recipes, fighting Rambo with courageous major Šatochin, criticizing consumerism and “dollaromania” or allowing to plan a perfect plot in a murder simulator. All of these stories told not via fancy graphics but thanks to their developer’s writing and player text commands.

Eliška Děcká (Czech Republic)

Animated Documentary

Eliška Děcká is an Assistant Professor at the Animation Department at Film and TV School of Academy of Performing Arts in Prague (FAMU), Czech Republic. She teaches animation including animated documentary with a special focus on animated documentary using the oral history methodology (authentic recordings of real-life narrations or interviews) which is also prevailing in her academic research, most recently in her Ph.D. dissertation.

She was a guest lecturer at Harvard Univeristy, University of Michigan, Hostos Community College in Bronx, NYC, Arts Academy in Turku, Finland, Moholy-Nagy University of Art and Design, Budapest, Hungary and others.

She also collaborates as a curator, jury member and selection committee member with variety of international animation festival and events like Tricky Women Vienna (Austria); Animation Nights New York; Fest Anca Zilina (Slovakia); Primanima (Hungary); TAFF (Finland); Anifilm and PAF Olomouc (Czech Republic) etc. For the 2018 edition of Swiss international animation festival Fantoche, she curated an animation documentary screening focused on sexuality.

She also co-founded a non-profit organization AniScreen with the aim to promote artistic independent animation by producing various site-specific curated screenings of animated shorts. She’s a member of Society of Animation Studies (presented her papers at annual conferences in Singapore, Athens, Edinburgh, Atlanta, Toronto and more) and publishes about animation in various journals and magazines.

Animated Documentary
In this lecture with many film clips, visual and audio examples, Eliska will talk briefly about the history of animated documentary and its omnipresent character today. She will also show and discuss many different types of animated documentaries (e.g. personal stories, autographical approach, sociological approach, reconstruction of memories and historical events etc.). Last but not least she will put a special focus on the oral history methodology and its use of real-life narrations and voice recordings, creating a variety of filmmaking possibilities in connection with the animation medium.

Réka Bucsi (Hungary)

Réka Bucsi, born in 1988, is an internationally recognised, multiple award-winning independent Hungarian animation filmmaker. She received her BFA and MFA at the Animation Department of the Moholy-Nagy University of Art and Design, Budapest. Her graduation film ‘Symphony no. 42’, got shortlisted for the Oscars in 2014. Her films were screened at official shorts competition at the Berlinale, the SXSW Festival in Austin, TX as well as at the Sundance Film Festival and in Annecy and won over 50 international awards. 2013/2014 she attended Animation Sans Frontiéres (ASF), the European Animation Production Workshop. She was an artist in residence at the Open Workshop in Viborg – Denmark, and at Q21 in Vienna – Austria. Réka’s debut short film ‘LOVE’ was nominated for best short film at the European Film Awards 2017. Her new short film Solar Walk premiered at the Berlinale 2018, and won the Audi Short Film Award. Réka is represented as a director by Passion Pictures.

Réka is a frequent presenter at festivals and conferences. Just in 2018 she was a guest speaker at the California Institute of the Arts (CalArts), at the FMX Conference in Stuttgart, Germany, at the Pictoplasma Conference in Berlin Germany where she also had a solo exhibition.

Making Movies After School
Réka will talk about her work in independent animation filmmaking from graduation to professional work. Through presenting her personal work, she will talk about the creative process, production, funding and what it means to be a filmmaker with a focus on experimental narrative. How do people relate to abstract storytelling structures, and how to get these across to a bigger audience.
